Mathematics is supported by our mathematics specialist teacher and follows the latest developments in the teaching, learning and application of mathematical skills.
Our aim is to develop in the children a positive attitude towards mathematical skills and thinking by using a practical approach, modelling mathematical concepts through the use of concrete apparatus and relating it to real life situations which they will experience as children and adults.
We place a high emphasis on problem solving and convincing to develop children’s in depth understanding of the concepts of mathematics, teaching the children the skills needed for these so that they can then begin to work independently.
Basic numerical calculation, including times tables, is practised daily to ensure that the children develop a fluency in their skills enabling them to apply them effectively.
We follow the New National Curriculum 2014 for Mathematics.
